Marlboro Literacy Council Undergoes Extreme Business Online Makeover

Columbia, SC-February 15, 2015- Marlboro Literacy Council of Bennettsville, SC is undergoing a massive business transformation in order to attract more volunteers. This transformation is being conducted through a tech savvy PR firm located in Columbia, SC, Metamorphosis, headed by CEO and Founder, Tamell Green, former secretary for Marlboro Literacy Council’s Advisory Board.

Marlboro Literacy Council helps citizens who may be unable to read or write learn or brush up on the basic literacy skills needed to earn a GED or high school diploma, and become gainfully employed.

It has realized that in order to gain traction with its publics, it needs an online presence that not only includes a web site, but also integrates social media and marketing campaigns that create brand awareness and engage the current citizens of Marlboro County as well as those that have moved away but still have ties to the community. These reasons were why Freida Ocean, Literacy Coordinator of Marlboro Literacy Council, welcomed the opportunity to be a part of the Capstone Project for Tamell Green, CEO and Founder of Metamorphosis who is also a student at Full Sail University in their Masters in Public Relations program. Tamell Green is a native of Marlboro County, SC and has worked hand in hand with Marlboro Literacy Council in several capacities. Currently, Tamell has been serving as a consultant with the organization and knows firsthand how this transformation will be beneficial not only to Marlboro Literacy Council but to the community in which it serves.

Through this campaign, Marlboro Literacy Council has two goals. They are: to build a Facebook community of 150 followers via its Facebook page and increase its volunteer base by 50% all by June 30th, 2015. Through this online business makeover, Marlboro Literacy Council wants to create brand awareness, create consistency throughout the brand, and drive more people to volunteer. Tamell’s company has already launched the Literacy Matters campaign by first conducting market research on how to attract more volunteers through social media. To create more awareness, Bingo for Literacy nights have been created every Monday night in the month of February from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Marlboro County Adult & Community Education building located in Bennettsville, SC. This free event is for participants, current volunteers, and open to the public.
